Accreditation and Certification For Professional Crisis Responder Chaplaincy Programs


 

Setting Standards For Professional Crisis Responders & Chaplaincy Programs

Although law enforcement agencies have various criteria for their Chaplaincy programs, the following list comprises a minimum Standard for a program to receive accrediation and certification from the HomeLand Crisis Institute On Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Accreditation And Education.

1. CISD/CISM Services

2. Death notification proceedure

3. Set program to help officers deal with burnout and other issues such as PTSD and post shoot trauma.

4. Must have a letter from the city or county attorney stating the chaplaincy program has been reviewed to limit legal libility, in addition that the specific program complies with HIPPA if applicable.

5. Confirmation that there is a written confidentiality policy and that the program conforms to approved ethical standards.

6. That there is a program in place to be able to respond to crisis situations, City, State and Federal.

7. That counseling services are available for officers, civilian employees and their families, and assure that there is a referal program with guidelines in place.

8. That a program exists to assit employees of the department and their families with alcohol and drug abuse issues and family violence..

9. Confirmation that the chaplaincy program has the required training to deal with suicidal idiation within the department or the community.

10. That a written policy exist for cultural and sensitivity training and that each chaplain has completed it.

11. That there exists a specific policy for applying for a chaplain position and the criteria set for such.

12. That there is a documented training program for new chaplains and inservice on going training for current chaplains.

In reviewing a Law enforcement chaplaincy program for accreditation HomeLand Crisis Institute will look at each of these areas to determine if the program is meeting the needs of their department and the public.

HomeLand Crisis Institute will request that they be allowed to review documentation confirming that these areas of Chaplaincy are currently implemented in the program. Documentation may include copies of policy and procedures of the agency or departmental letter from the Chief of the agency, General orders or any similar documentation.

During the accreditation process HomeLand Crisis Institute will confirm the existence of these areas of Chaplaincy within the program. If there is a deficiency the chaplaincy program will be given 6 months to implement the additional areas into their program or make the changes that are needed.

Upon satisfactory completition of the study HomeLand Crisis Institute will issue the accreditation documentation to the Chaplaincy Program. There is a one time fee for the accreditation process.
